CALIFORNIA 117 FOAM (CTB117) - Flexible polyurethane foam that will meet the component combustibility requirements of the California Bureau of Home Furnishings' Technical Bulletin No. 117 (TB117). CONVOLUTED - A foam fabrication process involving the use of special cutting equipment to produce a foam sheet with "egg carton" dimples. The peaks and bases can be varied to the specification of the individual user. DENSITY - The weight of a cubic foot of foam. Density is independent of firmness or IFD. Density is considered to be the most important indicator of overall quality. HIGH RESILIENCE (HR) - A premium variety of polyurethane foam. High resilience foam has a cell structure different from conventional products. The different and varied cell structure helps add support, comfort and durability. High resilience foams have a high support factor. IFD - Indentation Force Deflection is a measure of load bearing capacity or firmness. IFD is measured on the surface as 25% IFD, and under full load bearing conditions as 65% IFD. Normally foam is defined at the 25% IFD which is the number of pounds required to achieve a 25% compression of the foam sample. SUPPORT FACTOR - The ratio of 65% IFD divided by the 25% IFD. The higher the number, the greater the difference between the surface firmness and the deep support. Higher support factors allow desirable softness and a firm inner support. |
